Construction side jobs in California
California lets you take small jobs without a contractor’s license when the total for labor and materials is under $1,000, the job needs no building permit, and you don’t hire help. If you advertise that work, you must say you’re not licensed. Construction students get a built-in “not a licensed contractor” notice on their site, and we switch to licensed branding when you get your license.
This is general information, not legal advice. See the Contractors State License Board for the rules.
